Latitude Festival 2018

AP cover more ground for 2018

Friday 20th July 2018

2018 saw Latitude Festival at Henham Park in Suffolk arrive for its thirteenth outing, with AP providing services for the twelfth successive year. With the event’s success as Best Major Festival at the 2017 UK Festival Awards fresh in our minds, we were thrilled to take on significantly larger coverage at this year’s event. As well as the Arena and all stages, AP Security undertook stewarding and security services across the campsites for the first time this year.

“We know the Arena” says Simon Miller, AP’s Northern Regional Manager, and AP’s Head of Security for the show. “The Arena is complex, ever-changing and hugely challenging with special guests, secret performances and less-predictable audience gatherings to soak up hugely diverse entertainment” continues Simon. “But it was ‘Year One’ for us again in respect of the campsites with a very steep learning curve of how the campsites worked, how the Latitude customers arrived on site, how the day visitors arrived and left each day, and understanding how best to play our part in providing a safe and secure environment.”

“Preparation was critical,” adds Jimmy Norrie, Senior Operations Manager, “we had made multiple visits to the site long before the event, had worked closely with Festival republic to understand how the campsites worked and had prepared thoroughly to provide the best possible information to the teams looking after the Latitude customers.”

Latitude 2018 built on its enormous success of the previous year and on it its already stellar reputation as a unique event. Liam Gallagher popped in unannounced to play a storming set at the BBC Music Stage on Saturday, (of course in the gorgeous Latitude sunshiiiine) whilst The Killers, Alt-J and Solange exemplified the diversity of music which rubs shoulders with theatre, dance, spoken word and comedy at an event which can never be accused of resting on its laurels.

“We are delighted with our contribution” concluded Simon Miller, “but now we start planning for 2019, our thirteenth Latitude; we will be looking to raise our own performance levels still higher.”
