The V05 NME Awards

At the O2 Academy Brixton

Wednesday 21st February 2018

Forget Valentine’s Day, it was all about our love for music as the VO5 NME Awards took place at the O2 Academy Brixton last Wednesday.

The biggest names in the industry came together on O2 Brixton’s sloping floor to celebrate the best of the best. Some of the winners included Liam Gallagher for Godlike Genius, Ariana Grande named Hero of the Year and her One Love Manchester concert won Music Moment of the Year. Best British Band won by Alt-J, and, after headlining Leeds Festival last year, Muse took the title of Best Festival Headliner.

“On an average day at O2 Brixton, our role is very much customer service focused, working with the public and ensuring they have a safe enjoyable night.” Said Chris Hollands, AP’s Regional Manager, “The NME Awards is a huge night for the venue and for AP, with additional important factors to consider such as artist movement, various levels of press access and bespoke arrival departure requirements. We worked closely with artist security, managers from other AMG venues and key people in the industry to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.”

“The pass sheet is very complex which needs a lot of care and attention, especially into the table area on level 1 where all the artist are, we have to handpick the staff to get the right staff in the right places,” adds Chris. “Overall we had a great night and we are very happy with our performance. It is always a pleasure to be at the O2 Academy Brixton, and to be a key part in such a big award night for the music industry is the icing on the cake.”

Chris summarises, “I would like to personally thank all of our staff on the night, with their hard work they helped make it an event we can all be proud of.”
