At the Royal Albert Hall

Friday 23rd February 2018

One of the most prestigious celebrations of film in the world, the British Academy Film Awards arrived at the equally prestigious Royal Albert Hall on Sunday. As the podium went up and awards polished, AP Security were ready to ensure a safe environment for such a high profile event full of famous industry names.

The BAFTA’s returned to the Royal Albert Hall in 2017 for their 70th anniversary ceremony, for the first time since 1997, to the delight of everyone at the venue having it return for a second consecutive year in 2018 is fantastic news. Joanna Lumley took over as host as Stephen Fry stepped down after 12 years at the ceremony.

“The BAFTAs are an important night for the film industry, it is one of the most prestigious award events in the calendar year and to be involved for a second year is an honour for the AP team,” said Tommy Michalis, AP’s Senior Operations Manager. “With such a high profile event like this there is added pressure, whilst we make some changes to adapt to the specific event needs, overall we maintain a high standard operation as with other events held at Royal Albert Hall.”

“The staff searching on the doors were efficient and professional, especially with high profile guests that were coming in through the entrance. They were key in ensuring guests were inside and ready in good time before the awards started, and they achieved this in safe and very efficient time,” James Sweeney, AP’s Operations Manager. James comments, “We also provided roaming teams throughout the venue, and a two man team to help the operation in main hall which were a discreet but reassuring presence during the whole event. From an operations perspective, we are very pleased with how well the night went.”

“I speak on behalf of everyone when I say we really enjoy being at Royal Albert Hall, collaborating with the events team there. To help them with such an iconic event they organised is a pleasure for the AP Security team.” Tommy adds, “Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you to all of our staff that helped make the BAFTAs a successful event.”
